DVD neXt Copy Review

Windows Vista Compatible

While it is not the best DVD copy software available in the market, DVD neXt COPY is definitely a decent piece of software that may suit the needs of some people more than the other programs that are ranked higher in our list.

It is a fast and stable program that produces copies of excellent quality. It also boasts a great feature set, with such desirable features as legally integrated CSS Decryption, excellent video compression encoding, advanced options, Dual Layer support, and episodic support. These features make DVD neXt COPY great for simply copying DVDs. There are areas, however, in which the program falls short, and this may be something consumers might wish to think twice about before deciding to purchase this particular piece of software.

The most important shortcoming of this program is the fact that it is not able to deal with the latest forms of enhanced copy protection. Almost all of the DVDs being produced today feature some form of enhanced copy protection, and this protection causes most older DVD copy software to malfunction, creating copies with errors, distortions or skips. This can be very annoying when you are attempting to copy large numbers of newer DVDs.

The other features to be found in DVD neXt COPY we do recommend however. The video compression used in the program, for example, is excellent. Video compression is vital if you wish to be able to copy an entire DVD movie onto a single DVD. Without video compression, each DVD movie you wished to copy would probably have to be burned over two DVDs. The problem with video compression, however, is that it involves a drop in the quality of the picture. Thus there is a tradeoff between picture quality and the space required. The video compression used in DVD neXt COPY is able to make a great tradeoff, with only a small drop in quality for a large reduction in the amount of space required.

Legally integrated CSS decryption is also a feature that is very welcome in any DVD copy software. This allows the software to circumvent the CSS encryption that is put in place on almost every commercial DVD to prevent piracy of intellectual property. With legally integrated CSS decryption, you will be able to download a third-party decrypter software that will remove the CSS encryption for you, allowing copies of the DVD to be made. While some users may find it annoying to have to download and install another piece of software in order for this one to work, this system does have its benefits.

International copyright laws are fairly strict concerning programs that are able to circumvent CSS encryption, and these programs are generally regarded as illegal by the international community. Programs that come with built-in CSS decrypters may find themselves the targets of lawsuits brought up against them by major media companies. In the case of DVD neXt COPY, however, there is no built-in CSS decrypter, only the support for such a program, which is not illegal in itself.

Episodic support is another great feature that many users will appreciate. This means that the software is able to recognize and replicate the episode markers that are found in some DVDs. DVDs that contain a television series, for example, will have several episodes of that series on a single disc. With less well-developed DVD copy software, these episodes will not remain as separate episodes on the copied disc. Instead, they will all become one long single video, and skipping to a particular episode will involve fast forwarding the movie through the preceding episodes. With episodic support, however, skipping to a particular episode simply involves selecting that particular episode from the starting menu.

DVD neXt COPY also offers users advanced options such as more detailed control over the video compression settings. Some people find this extremely useful, as they like to remain in control of the process as much as possible. This is also useful for those who are picky about the quality of the video in the copied DVDs. It is possible to make use of certain settings to obtain the best possible picture while still fitting an entire DVD movie on a single disc. It is only with this greater control over video compression settings that a user will be able to achieve that maximum clarity and sharpness in the copy while still fitting DVD movies on a single disc each.

DVD neXt COPY is a DVD copy program that is suitable for anyone who has a large collection of older DVDs that they would like to backup. If you are looking to create copies of newer DVDs, however, then you should definitely be looking elsewhere for your DVD copy software needs.
